Shipping Policy

Plants are living things. Here's how LunaSprig sellers ship them safely and what you can expect as a buyer.

You are responsible for verifying shipping regulations

It is your responsibility to verify and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and carrier policies for shipping live plants, including federal, state, and local agricultural restrictions. Regulations vary by plant species, origin, and destination — always confirm requirements before shipping or ordering plants.

2–4 day handling

Sellers ship within 2–4 business days of payment. Some sellers offer faster turnaround on the listing page.

Tracking included

Every shipped order includes a tracking number. Orders without tracking are not eligible for shipping protection.

Heat packs

When the destination low is below 50°F, sellers add a 72-hour heat pack. Most sellers list this as a small add-on at checkout.

Cold packs

For summer shipments to hot climates, cold packs and insulated liners protect plants from heat damage.

Plant-safe packaging

Roots wrapped, foliage cushioned, snug box — sellers pack to keep soil and leaves intact in transit.

Where we ship

LunaSprig is currently a U.S.-only marketplace. International shipping is not supported. Some plants cannot be shipped to certain U.S. states (notably Hawaii, Florida, California, and Arizona) due to agricultural restrictions — sellers will block ineligible addresses at checkout.

Carriers

Sellers choose their own carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx). Most rare plants ship Priority Mail (1–3 days) for the best survival rate. Ground shipping is allowed in temperate weather only.

Packaging

Live plants are fragile cargo. LunaSprig sellers follow a shared packing playbook so your plant arrives in the same shape it left:

  1. Watered the day before — never a soaking-wet plant. Slightly damp soil keeps weight down and prevents leaks.
  2. Root ball secured. The nursery pot is wrapped in plastic and taped at the soil line, then bagged, so soil can't shift in transit (the #1 cause of arrival damage).
  3. Foliage sleeved in paper or a breathable wrap. Delicate aroid leaves get paper collars for support.
  4. Right-sized box. Plants ship in a corrugated box snug enough that they don't move when gently shaken — never a poly mailer.
  5. Voids filled with kraft, shredded paper, or air pillows — never loose peanuts touching leaves.
  6. Labeled up. "This Side Up", "Live Plants", and "Fragile" markings, with tall plants shipped upright with arrows.
  7. Seasonal protection. Heat packs are added when the route dips below 50°F; insulated liners with cold packs go in when it's forecast above 85°F.
  8. Same-day drop-off whenever possible — packed plants don't sit overnight.

Cuttings, bare-root plants, and potted plants each have their own quirks — sellers may include a short care note for unboxing.

Shipping costs

Sellers set their own shipping prices: free shipping, flat-rate shipping, or local pickup only. Heat-pack and cold-pack fees are shown separately at checkout if the seller offers them.

Local pickup

Some sellers offer local pickup as an alternative to shipping. Pickup orders are between you and the seller — buyer protection does not apply once you've taken the plant in person.

Tracking & delivery

  • You'll get a tracking number as soon as the seller marks the order as shipped.
  • Open the package the day it arrives — leaving it on a hot porch or in a freezing mailroom can kill an otherwise healthy plant.
  • If your tracking shows "delivered" but you don't see the package, check with neighbors and your carrier first; if it's still missing after 48 hours, contact the seller.

Address accuracy is your responsibility

Make sure your shipping address is correct before you place the order. Packages returned because of a bad or incomplete address you provided are not covered by buyer protection.

Weather holds

If extreme weather is forecast on either end, sellers may briefly hold your order to ship safely. They'll message you through LunaSprig if so. This does not extend the buyer protection window.
